In support of alcohol awareness, State Rep. Chuck Hopson has teamed up with the Texas Hospitality Association (THA) to fight underage drinking and to promote alcohol responsibility through a poster contest that will award students two $5,000 scholarships. Two statewide poster design and slogan contests are sponsored by THA. One is for high school seniors and a second for college, technical and university students 21 years and older.

The theme for the high school students is: “Underage drinking (under 21) in Texas is against the law.” For the college, technical and university students the theme will be: “A beer (12 oz.), mixed drink (1.5 oz. liquor) and glass of wine (5 oz.) each contain the same amount of alcohol.”

One student from each category will win a $5,000 scholarship.”We are very excited about involving Texas high school students in developing a message that will combat underage drinking in their age group,” said Rep. Hopson.

“Having students over age 21 emphasize the fact that ‘a drink is a drink,’ regardless of whether it is beer, wine or a mixed drink, reminds all Texans of the need for alcohol awareness,” Rep. Hopson said.
