Traditional Values

As a legislator, Chuck Hopson works hard to represent the values of his District.  Growing up in East Texas, he learned that if we are willing to commit to do what is right, then there is no end to what we can achieve.  Chuck will always work hard and do his best for the people of House District 11, to make sure the community’s needs are met and its values are reflected in the Texas House of Representatives.

East Texas is a special region.  Chuck goes to Austin to protect its way of life—an honest day’s pay for an honest day’s work, prioritizing public education and local control, lower taxes and limited government, accessible and affordable healthcare, and protection of natural resources and property rights.

Rep. Hopson continues to make a difference for East Texas:

  • He fought for increased funding for our classrooms, a significant pay raise for teachers, accountability, and local control for our public schools.
  • He authored legislation to triple the homestead exemption to $45,000 to significantly lower property taxes for homeowners.
  • He authored a bill to fully restore teachers’ health insurance reimbursement directly into all district employees paychecks.
  • He authored the constitutional amendment to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman and to ban civil unions.
  • He worked to improve the health of our children by passing legislation to increase funding for newborn screening, childhood vaccines, and immunizations, as well as restore cuts made to the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) which provides preventative care for our children.
  • He authored legislation that prevents convicted sex offenders from purchasing sexual enhancement drugs through the state-sponsored Medicaid program, ensuring that taxpayer dollars are used for preventative healthcare.
  • He secured the future of our mentally ill and mentally retarded patients by increasing funds to all our state hospitals and schools, including Rusk State Hospital and Lufkin State School.
  • He fought for legislation to give tax credits to volunteer fire-fighter departments that are struggling to pay for new equipment, so they can ensure our safety and protection.
