AUSTIN - Representative Chuck Hopson is calling on the United States Congress to enforce the laws that are currently on the books that will stem the tide of illegal aliens that enter Texas.
House Resolution 97 will be presented by Rep. Hopson before the Committee on State Affairs Monday morning at 8:00 am.
“One of the first priorities of our government should be to protect our national security,” Hopson said. “There has been a lot of talk lately about creating new laws. Right now we have laws on the books, but Texas does not have the resources to do the federal government’s job.”
Representative Hopson went on to say, “With the lack of enforcement, Texas has little knowledge of the identities of criminals and terrorists that may be entering and living within our state’s borders. There is an additional burden on taxpayers when Congress fails to act. Illegal immigrants take up beds in both Texas hospitals and jails, costing valuable taxpayer dollars.”
Representative Hopson hopes that House Resolution 97 will be voted out of committee on Monday so the full House can send a strong, unified message to their counterparts in Washington D.C.
