AUSTIN–Three important ceremonies affecting Jacksonville and Cherokee County occurred Tuesday. For the first time in history both the state representative and senator will be from Cherokee County and Jacksonville. Four term State Representative Chuck Hopson will be joined by incoming State Senator Robert Nichols. In a special ceremony held Tuesday morning, Billie Hopson, Rep. Hopson’s, wife was sworn in as President of the Legislative Ladies Club.
“I am overjoyed to able to continue serving the great people of Cherokee County and all of District 11 for a 4th straight term. But I am especially proud of my wife, Billie. It’s a great honor for her to serve and represent Cherokee County and the whole District,” Hopson said.
The Legislative Ladies Club serves to help foster friendships among legislative families and help first time legislatives spouses settle into their new and public role. Billie Hopson has been an active member of the LLC since Rep. Hopson was first elected to office. She is also involved in numerous local boards.
Rep. Hopson has been meeting with local business and community leaders to address issues important to the district. In particular, local water issues and the Texas State Railroad were high on the list of concerns. Hopson said he would work closely with all other members to ensure that policies important to the district are adopted in Austin.
“I am eager to address the issues affecting families in my district,” Hopson said. “I’m in Austin to serve as the voice of my constituents and I’m committed to that calling. Rest assured that the interests of Panola, Rusk, Cherokee and Houston Counties will be heard in the Capitol this session.”
The Texas Legislature will stay in session for 140 days between January and May. This is the 80th session since Texas entered the Union in 1845.
House District 11 residents are encouraged to contact Rep. Hopson and his staff in his capitol office at 512-463-0592, or district office at 866-233-5100.
